Heurich Mausoleum, Neo-Gothic mausoleum in Rock Creek Cemetery, United States.
The Heurich Mausoleum is a Neo-Gothic structure featuring four winged caryatids positioned at each corner with distinct hairstyles and hands clasped together. These supporting figures touch the roof with closed eyes, creating a solemn sculptural composition.
This mausoleum was built in 1895 and originally stood at a dairy farm in Prince George's County. It was relocated to Rock Creek Cemetery in Washington during 1951.
Inside the structure, a German inscription reads 'In Deep Pain, There is no Worldly Wisdom for the Heart', expressing the memorial customs of its era.
The structure is located at the intersection of Webster Street and Rock Creek Church Road NW within the cemetery grounds. It can be viewed from the outside and is easily accessible to visitors walking through the area.
A Tiffany stained glass window decorates the back of the structure, showing an angel holding a scroll with the word 'Peace' inscribed on it. This hidden detail reveals the artistic sophistication that many visitors overlook.
