Hyattsville Historic District
Hyattsville Historic District, Historic residential district in Hyattsville, Maryland, US.
The Hyattsville Historic District contains 600 structures spread across 627 acres, featuring residential buildings with brick and fieldstone foundations.
Christopher Clark Hyatt established the city in 1845, and by 1890 Hyattsville became one of two cities in Prince George's County exceeding 1,000 residents.
The district displays architectural diversity through Second Empire, Queen Anne, Italianate, Victorian, Bungalow, and Spanish style homes from different construction periods.
The district boundaries extend from the B&O Railroad tracks to East-West Highway, encompassing 42nd Place, Madison Street, and multiple residential avenues.
In 1892, Hyattsville implemented the first single-tax system in the United States, requiring taxes exclusively on land rather than improvements.
