Calvert Hills Historic District

Calvert Hills Historic District is a residential neighborhood with single-family homes and apartment buildings developed during the early 1900s. The area spans across multiple blocks bordered by Baltimore Avenue and Calvert Road, with the College Park Post Office located within the district.

The Calvert family developed this neighborhood starting in 1907 on their former farmland into a modern residential area. Growth continued steadily through the 1940s as more homes and buildings were constructed.

The homes display a range of architectural styles from the early 1900s, including Colonial Revival, Queen Anne, Tudor Revival, and Cape Cod designs. Walking through the streets reveals how suburban living evolved during that era.

The neighborhood borders Baltimore Avenue on the west and a major transit corridor on the east, making it accessible by multiple transportation options. The streets are walkable, though visitors should remember this is an active residential area with local foot traffic.

Aviation pioneer Wilbur Wright rented a room on Bowdoin Avenue during the early days of flight development. His presence connected this residential neighborhood to a significant chapter in aviation history.
