Indian Brook Road Historic District, Historic district in Garrison, New York, United States
Indian Brook Road Historic District is a protected area containing approximately 15 buildings spread along an unpaved road that crosses US Route 9. The site covers about 30 acres and preserves structures dating from the late 1800s period of development.
The area was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1993, officially protecting the structures there. Many of the houses were built during the land development phase of the late 1800s and document an important era of regional settlement.
The buildings display local architectural styles with English influences visible in the homes and inns scattered throughout the area. This building style tells a story about everyday life and how people shaped their surroundings over many generations.
Access to the area is along Indian Brook Road, an unpaved road whose condition varies depending on the weather. Visitors should drive slowly and watch for pedestrians since the area has no separate sidewalks.
The area preserves Indian Brook and a mill pond as important historical sites showing how water once powered mills and other operations. These water features remain visible today and remind visitors of the practical role that water power played in the region's early economic development.
