Juniper Island Light, Lighthouse on Juniper Island in Lake Champlain, Vermont, US
The lighthouse extends 30 feet high with a cast iron tower connected to a brick keeper's house through an enclosed passageway.
Congress allocated funds in 1825 to build the first lighthouse on Lake Champlain, purchasing Juniper Island from Moses Catlin for 200 dollars.
The lighthouse represents early 19th-century maritime architecture and stands as a testament to Lake Champlain's navigation history and development.
The lighthouse operated until 1954, when it was replaced by a modern steel tower positioned closer to the water for improved navigation.
This structure holds the distinction of being the oldest surviving cast iron lighthouse in the United States, constructed in 1846.
