Perkins Pier, Waterfront park and playground in Burlington, United States

Perkins Pier is a waterfront park extending into Lake Champlain, featuring a marina with docking facilities and a recreational area overlooking the Adirondack Mountains. The location combines water access with green spaces for walking and spending time outdoors.

The site began as the Old Salt Dock and was renamed Perkins Pier in 1959 after Dr. Charles N. Perkins. He advocated for public access to Lake Champlain, shaping the location into a community gathering place.

The pier functions as a community space where residents participate in organized activities such as bird watching events and pride hiking gatherings.

The park is easily accessible on foot and offers parking on-site for visitors. The best time to visit is during dry weather when pathways are in good condition and you can explore the grounds comfortably.

The marina accommodates vessels up to 26 feet at its docks and larger boats up to 32 feet at designated mooring locations.

Hidden places in Vermont

Vermont contains remote locations of historical importance that often lie away from major routes. The region encompasses active and abandoned granite quarries, one-room schoolhouses dating from the 19th century, wooden covered bridges, and waterfalls flowing through forested gorges. Trails cross the Green Mountains, leading to mountain lakes, abandoned settlements, and farms that have operated for generations. Historic sites include President Calvin Coolidge's birthplace in Plymouth Notch, preserved as a museum village, and Naulakha, Rudyard Kipling's former residence in Dummerston. Several state parks provide views over the Champlain Valley and Lake Champlain. The marble exhibits in Proctor document the region's quarrying history. These locations offer insight into Vermont's industrial past, literary heritage, and rural traditions.
