Kings Plaza, shopping mall in Brooklyn, New York
Kings Plaza is a large shopping center in the Marine Park neighborhood of southern Brooklyn, home to major department stores, national clothing chains, and a food court. It spans two levels connected by escalators, with shops arranged along wide interior walkways.
Kings Plaza opened in 1970 and was one of the first enclosed shopping malls built in New York City. Over the following decades it went through several renovations and saw many stores come and go as retail trends shifted.
Kings Plaza carries strong memories for many Brooklyn residents who grew up shopping there with family. Today it remains a place where neighbors run into each other, grab a bite, and keep up familiar routines close to home.
The mall has a large attached parking garage and additional surface lots, so arriving by car is straightforward. Visitors using public transit can reach it by bus from several directions, and the main entrance is easy to spot from the street.
Kings Plaza was built with a marina behind it along Mill Basin, making it one of the few shopping centers in the country with its own boat slips when it opened. The waterfront setting is still visible from the back of the property today.
