The lake was created by construction of a dam that flooded the Wisconsin River valley. This project fundamentally altered the natural water flow and landscape of the region.
The reservoir is accessible from multiple points along the shore with informal access areas. Visits are most enjoyable during warmer months when surrounding trails and roads are easily passable.
