Lakes Region Facility was a correctional institution in Laconia with multiple buildings housing minimum security inmates. The institution provided various rehabilitation programs and services throughout Belknap County.
The New Hampshire Department of Corrections operated this minimum custody transitional center until its closure in 2009 during the economic recession. The facility shut down as part of broader state budget reductions.
The facility inmates contributed over 30,000 hours of community service to state agencies and non-profit organizations across the Laconia region.
The facility employed roughly 150 staff members including correctional officers who managed various programs and operations. Visitors should note the institution is no longer in operation.
In 2004 all female inmates were transferred to Shea Farm Halfway House in Concord, making the facility exclusively male afterward. This reorganization marked a significant turning point in the institution's operation.
