Land of Oz, theme park in Beech Mountain, North Carolina

Land of Oz is a themed amusement park on Beech Mountain in North Carolina, built around the story of Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz. Visitors walk along a replica yellow brick road, meet costumed characters, and move through scenes that follow the arc of the story.

The park first opened in 1970 and was one of the early literary-themed parks in the American South. It closed for a period and later reopened as a seasonal event space, operating mainly during its autumn celebration.

The park is best known for its annual autumn event held on Beech Mountain, where visitors can dress as characters and take part in live performances. Many guests arrive already dressed up, turning the visit into a shared experience rather than a passive one.

The park does not operate year-round and welcomes visitors mainly during its autumn event, so checking access dates in advance is a good idea. The location on Beech Mountain means temperatures can be cooler than in the valley below, so bringing an extra layer is helpful.

The yellow brick road running through the park is made of over 40,000 individually glazed bricks. The park also sits at over 5,000 feet (1,500 m) above sea level, making it one of the highest-elevation amusement parks on the US East Coast.
