Lane House

Lane House is a two-and-a-half-story brick residence with five bays built in the Federal architectural style. The symmetrical design and classical proportions show the quality of craftsmanship that went into its construction.

The house was built in 1828 and served as the birthplace of Harriet Lane, who later became White House hostess during President James Buchanan's time in office from 1857 to 1861. This connection to national politics made the building historically important.

The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission placed a state historical marker at this site in 1953 to recognize its connection to national political figures. This official designation highlights how a single house can hold significance in American political history.
