Built during the Great Depression as a Works Progress Administration project in the 1930s, the stadium initially belonged to Belleville Township High School until 2003.
The stadium transitioned from educational to community use when Lindenwood University closed its Belleville campus in 2020, leading to city ownership and management by Southwestern Illinois College.
The facility underwent extensive renovations in 2012, including concrete restoration, waterproof coating applications, and the installation of new expansion joints in both seating sections.
From 2012 to 2023, the field displayed distinctive red and gray stripes instead of traditional green, making it one of only four such colored fields in the country.
