Lincoln Monument of Wabash, Indiana, Bronze monument at Wabash County Courthouse, United States
The Lincoln Monument of Wabash is a bronze sculpture depicting the former president seated with his head bowed and arms resting on his knees. The work sits on a granite base on the courthouse lawn in this Indiana town.
The bronze sculpture was created by artist Charles Keck and commissioned by Alexander New. It was unveiled on May 31, 1932, during Memorial Day celebrations in Wabash.
The inscription 'With malice toward none, with charity for all' appears on the granite base. These words from Lincoln's second inaugural address remain a message of reconciliation visitors encounter when passing by.
The monument sits at the northeast corner of the courthouse lawn where you can find it easily. Wheelchair-accessible paths loop around the statue, allowing you to view the details from different angles.
The bronze figure shows fine details such as a visible pocket watch on the president's vest. His right boot also extends beyond the bronze base, creating a subtle sense of movement in the seated pose.
