Lonnie Poole Golf Course, Golf course at North Carolina State University, US.
Lonnie Poole Golf Course is an 18-hole golf course located on the campus of North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina. The layout follows the natural contours of the land, with elevation changes from hole to hole that keep the round varied throughout.
The course opened in 2009, designed by the Arnold Palmer Design company. It was built to give the university a dedicated home for its golf programs while also welcoming outside players.
The course serves as the home ground for the golf teams of North Carolina State University while remaining open to the public. Visitors play alongside student athletes who train there regularly, giving the place a collegiate feel that sets it apart from a typical public course.
The course is open daily and offers lessons and swing analysis in addition to regular play. Arriving early in the morning generally gives you a better pick of tee times and lets you enjoy the round before the course gets busier later in the day.
Arnold Palmer personally oversaw the design of the course, which puts it among a small number of courses in the world shaped directly by one of the most recognized professional golfers ever. Palmer was known for letting the natural terrain guide his layouts rather than reworking the land heavily.
