Massachusetts's 7th congressional district, Congressional district in eastern Massachusetts, United States
Massachusetts's 7th congressional district is an electoral division in the eastern part of the state, covering most of Boston along with Somerville and sections of Cambridge. It spans densely populated urban neighborhoods with residential streets, commercial corridors, and public facilities that shape everyday city life.
The current shape of the district emerged after the 2010 census, when boundaries were redrawn and much of the former territory shifted to a different area. Since 2019, the district has been represented by its first African American congresswoman in the House of Representatives.
The district population includes diverse communities with 38.7% White, 21.9% Hispanic, 20.4% Black, 11.7% Asian, and 33% of residents born outside the United States.
Voters can cast their ballots ahead of the official election day through early voting without needing to wait until the main date. Community organizations throughout the district offer guidance and support to answer questions about the electoral process.
The district sent its first representative of African American heritage to Washington in 2019. Her election marked a turning point in the state's congressional representation at the federal level.
