Moscow Covered Bridge, Covered bridge in Moscow, Rush County, United States
The Moscow Covered Bridge is a covered bridge in Moscow, Rush County, featuring a Burr Arch design that spans the Big Flat Rock River with wooden and stone materials. The structure shows the traditional construction methods typical of bridges from that era.
Built in 1886 by Emmett L. Kennedy, the bridge was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. It underwent complete reconstruction after a tornado in 2008, with roughly 40 percent of original materials salvaged for the rebuilt structure.
The National Register of Historic Places listed this bridge in 1983 as part of a collection featuring six bridges from the Kennedy family construction firm.
The bridge is open to vehicle traffic and accessible for both driving and walking across, making it easy to visit. Plan your visit during dry weather to see the surrounding river landscape at its best and get good photographs.
After the 2008 tornado, prisoners from a nearby state facility helped recover original wooden beams from the riverbed. These salvaged timbers were later incorporated back into the rebuilt bridge.
