Senator Carter Glass commissioned the construction of Montview in 1923, maintaining residence at the property until his passing in 1946.
The estate houses an extensive library collection and maintains the original trees planted during Senator Glass's occupation of the property.

The front lawn of Montview contains the burial site of Reverend Jerry Falwell, who used the building as his office until his death.
