Montview, Historic estate in Lynchburg, Virginia, US
Montview is a historic house in Lynchburg built in the 1920s featuring a distinctive fieldstone central section with a gambrel roof, expanded by side wings and utility buildings. The 1.5-story main structure displays architectural details typical of residential estates from that period and stands on Liberty University grounds today.
A prominent senator commissioned the estate in the early 1920s and lived there for more than two decades afterward. The building changed hands several times and eventually became integrated into university property.
The estate now functions as part of Liberty University's campus and represents an important example of regional architecture from the early 20th century. The stone construction and mature trees on the grounds convey how prominent families built and maintained their homes in this area.
The estate sits on Liberty University's campus and can be viewed during visits to the grounds. Keep in mind that it remains part of an active university campus, so access to individual buildings may be limited.
The front lawn holds the burial site of a religious leader who used the building as his office for many years. This connection links two distinct periods of local history in one location.
