Nathaniel H. Burt House, Victorian residence in Leavenworth, United States
The Nathaniel H. Burt House is a two-and-a-half-story brick building that blends Romanesque Revival and Queen Anne architectural styles, decorated with limestone details and large stained glass windows. It contains five bedrooms and three and a half bathrooms across its multiple levels and sits at the corner of 5th Avenue and Middle Street.
Built in 1895 for Nathaniel Henry Burt, president of the Great Western Stove Company, the house was designed by local architect William Pratt Feth. This construction reflects the prosperity and architectural trends of that period.
The interior displays fine craftsmanship with pocket doors made from oak, cherry, and bird's eye maple, showing how affluent residents lived in the late 1800s. These detailed rooms offer a window into daily life during that era.
The residence sits at a street corner that is easy to reach and can be viewed from the exterior, with architectural details visible from different angles. Visitors should allow time to examine the stonework and window details that are clearly visible from outside.
The house features an unusual curved radiator along the stairway, which shows the heating innovation of that era. Original 1895 blueprints are preserved by both current owners and Leavenworth Public Works, documenting the building's original design.
