Morgan–Manning House
Morgan–Manning House, Renaissance Revival house in Brockport, United States.
The Morgan-Manning House is a two-story Italianate brick building situated on a 1.1-acre property in Brockport. The structure features a limestone foundation, five bays across the front elevation, and a decorative cupola on top.
The house was built in 1854 by Dayton S. Morgan, an industrialist who manufactured mechanized reapers through his Globe Iron Works company. The family occupied the property for generations before Sara Morgan Manning bequeathed it to the community in 1964.
The house displays handcrafted details such as carved woodwork, ornate ceiling decorations, and colored glass windows that reflect how wealthy households of the 1800s expressed their status through home design. These features show visitors how the family valued quality materials and skilled craftsmanship in their daily surroundings.
The property is located on Main Street in Brockport and is managed by the Western Monroe Historical Society, which offers regular visiting hours. The house is easy to reach on foot and provides a good sense of how a wealthy household of the 1800s was arranged and designed.
The house survived a devastating fire, making it a remarkable example of historical preservation efforts. Its survival is owed largely to Sara Morgan Manning's decision to leave it to the community, ensuring the building remains accessible to visitors today.
