Mulford T. Hunter House, Queen Anne style residence in Midtown Detroit, United States.

The Mulford T. Hunter House on West Hancock Street is a Queen Anne style residence built with red brick, featuring a prominent bay window and a porch supported by Ionic columns. The building was converted into multi-unit apartments in the 20th century but retains its original exterior character.

The house was built in 1894 for steamship captain Mulford T. Hunter, who hired the architectural firm Donaldson & Meier to design it. It documents a period when Great Lakes shipping brought wealth and growth to Detroit.

The residence reflects the architecture that wealthy shipping captains and their families could afford in Detroit at that time. The red brick and detailed craftsmanship show how upper-class residents wanted to display their status through their homes.

The building is in active use as a residential property with multiple units and sits on a busy residential street. The exterior features are clearly visible from the sidewalk, though the interior is not open to the public.

The substantial stone foundation in the basement raises the main structure noticeably and creates a strong visual base for the building. At the entrance level, an elliptical fanlight and oval window with decorative brickwork add refinement to the facade.
