National Corvette Museum, Automobile museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky
The National Corvette Museum is an automobile museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky, dedicated to a single American sports car model. The building houses more than 80 vehicles arranged across several galleries that trace design changes and technical improvements over many decades.
The museum opened in September 1994 to document the evolution of this sports car line since its first production run in 1953. In February 2014, a sinkhole opened beneath the building and swallowed eight vehicles, an event that became part of the site's own story.
The facility celebrates how the Corvette became part of American car culture, with visitors often sharing stories about their own vehicles. Display panels and restoration workshops show how owners maintain these cars as part of daily driving or weekend hobbies.
Visitors typically spend around two to three hours walking through the galleries, depending on their interest in technical details or archival materials. A gift shop and café provide options for breaks during the visit.
The sinkhole exhibit displays several vehicles exactly as they emerged from the collapse, with visible damage and dirt. Visitors can stand near the repaired floor section and compare restored cars with those left in their damaged state.
