Natchez Trace Parkway Bridge, Concrete deck arch bridge in Williamson County, Tennessee, US.
The Natchez Trace Parkway Bridge is a concrete arch bridge that spans across a forested hollow, passing high above State Route 96. The structure uses a segmental hollow box construction method that allows it to remain slender and elegant in appearance.
The bridge was completed in 1994 and was the first of its kind segmentally constructed in the United States. This accomplishment set a new standard for concrete arch bridge engineering in the country.
The National Park Service maintains this engineering structure as part of the Natchez Trace Parkway, connecting Nashville to Natchez through three states.
Visitors can observe the bridge from two viewing locations: a parking area north of the structure or from Tennessee Highway 96 below. Both spots offer different perspectives of the structure and its wooded surroundings.
The bridge eliminates spandrel columns, concentrating the deck weight directly at the arch crown for a clean, open design. This construction approach was particularly innovative for structures of this scale at the time of its completion.
