New York Cancer Hospital

The New York Cancer Hospital is a former hospital building in Manhattan that now serves as a residential structure and displays distinctive Gothic Revival architecture. The structure features prominent towers and red brick detailing that define the streetscape, while its interior has been transformed into modern living spaces.

The building was established in 1884 as a specialized cancer hospital and was one of the first institutions of its kind in America. After closing as a medical facility, it was converted into residential space while remaining part of Manhattan's healthcare history.

Since the building now houses private residences, interior access is not available, but you can view and photograph the exterior facade from the street. The late afternoon offers the best natural light to appreciate the architectural details and red brick work.

The building was one of the first houses in America devoted exclusively to treating cancer patients and set a new standard in medical specialization at that time. Its innovative purpose was so notable that it received distinctive architectural design to reflect its pioneering role.
