Ozark Folk Center, Folk cultural center in Mountain View, Arkansas
The Ozark Folk Center State Park preserves traditional Ozark mountain crafts through live demonstrations by over twenty skilled artisans creating copper jewelry, pottery, quilts, woodwork, and other handmade items throughout the seasonal operating period from mid-April to late October.
Founded in the mid-twentieth century as part of community initiatives to preserve regional customs amid modernization, the center has grown into a vital hub for maintaining Ozark cultural identity and traditional craftsmanship techniques passed down through generations.
The center showcases authentic Ozark and Appalachian cultural influences through mountain dulcimer performances, clogging dances, traditional storytelling, and folk music featuring fiddles, banjos, guitars, mandolins, and autoharps that create the characteristic Ozark Mountain sound.
Operating seasonally from mid-April through late October, the park charges fifteen dollars admission for adults with reduced rates for children, offers guided tours, lodging in rustic cabins, and provides amenities including a restaurant serving Southern cuisine and conference facilities.
Visitors can participate in interactive workshops learning traditional skills like blacksmithing, broom making, letterpress printing, and herb gardening while watching artisans create authentic handmade goods that are sold directly on-site in the Craft Village.
