Frederick G. Clausen designed this educational facility in 1899, replacing an earlier school structure and operating as an elementary institution until 1940.
The building represents a period of educational expansion in Davenport under Superintendent J.B. Young, when the city increased its school facilities.
The structure has been transformed into Pierce School Lofts, containing 41 market-rate apartments while maintaining its historical architectural elements.
The building combines Richardsonian Romanesque influences with Neoclassical design principles, evident in its symmetrical layout and structural composition.
