Prospect Park Historic District
Prospect Park Historic District, Historic residential district in Iowa, United States.
Prospect Park Historic District is a residential neighborhood in Davenport containing homes built between 1895 and 1910 spread across several streets. The houses line Mississippi Avenue and Prospect Drive, where single-family residences in various architectural styles stand today.
The land was platted by the Prospect Park Company in 1894 as part of a city development effort that shaped Davenport's growth. Several business leaders from town invested in properties during this period, spurring the construction of the neighborhood.
The homes display architectural styles favored by wealthy families around 1900, featuring Queen Anne, Neoclassical, and Tudor Revival elements throughout the streets. These styles shape the visual character of the neighborhood today and reveal how residents expressed their status through their houses.
The neighborhood can be easily reached via East River Drive and maintains its original character as a residential area. Visitors should explore the streets on foot to see the architecture and layout of this early residential development properly.
The area was home to several prominent Davenport families, including attorney Joseph R. Lane and the Richardson family involved in media. These notable residents left their mark across three distinct enclaves within the district's boundaries.
