Parkersburg–Belpre Bridge, Cantilever road bridge across Ohio River, United States
The Parkersburg-Belpre Bridge is a cantilever structure spanning the Ohio River to connect Parkersburg, West Virginia with Belpre, Ohio. The four-lane crossing allows traffic to move between the two states over the river.
The bridge was completed in 1980, replacing an earlier suspension structure from 1916 that had served the region for decades. This newer crossing reflected changing transportation needs in the Mid-Ohio Valley.
The American Discovery Trail incorporates this bridge as a crossing point over the Ohio River, establishing it as part of a significant national recreational route.
The crossing serves as a primary route between the states and is accessible from major highways on both sides of the river. Drivers should be aware that maintenance work occasionally occurs during regular operations.
After US Route 50 was redirected to the Blennerhassett Island Bridge in 2008, the structure maintains its role as a central crossing point in the Mid-Ohio Valley.
