Plattsmouth Bridge, Truss bridge across Missouri River between Nebraska and Iowa, United States
Plattsmouth Bridge is a truss structure carrying vehicle traffic across the Missouri River between Nebraska and Iowa. The bridge consists of multiple steel spans that allow cars and trucks to cross the wide river channel safely.
The bridge was completed in 1929 and replaced a ferry that previously transported people and vehicles across the river. It opened new transportation routes and strengthened connections between the two states.
The National Register of Historic Places listed this structure in 1993, acknowledging its role in connecting communities and facilitating regional transportation development.
The crossing requires payment from drivers, so it is good to have cash or a card ready when approaching the toll booth. Traffic flows smoothly most days, and the structure is accessible for standard vehicles.
The bridge transferred from private to public ownership in 2007 when the Plattsmouth Bridge Commission took control from the Plattsmouth Bridge Company.
