Quadrangle Club, Private social club in Hyde Park, Chicago, United States.
The Quadrangle Club is a private social club in Hyde Park featuring distinctive red brick walls and a multi-colored slate roof near the University of Chicago. The building contains tennis courts, dining rooms, conference spaces, guest accommodations, and a library for members and invited guests.
The club was founded in 1893 and relocated to its current building in 1922, designed by architect Howard Van Doren Shaw as a space for university faculty. The relocation coincided with the growing institutional presence of the university in that period.
The club serves as a gathering place where faculty and scholars attend lectures, listen to live music, and participate in seasonal celebrations that bring together the university community. First Friday Jazz Nights have become a regular tradition that draws people from across campus.
The building sits right next to the University of Chicago campus on East 57th Street and is easily accessible on foot. Keep in mind this is an exclusive venue where access is limited to members and their invited guests.
Several Nobel Prize winners including Albert Michelson, Milton Friedman, and Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar gathered here regularly to exchange ideas. These informal meetings between leading minds helped establish the place as a center for intellectual conversation.
