Pryor's Location, Michigan, Historical location in Houghton, Michigan, United States

Pryor's Location was a small settlement in Houghton situated along the Portage Lake Shipping Canal at the intersection of Lake Street and Lakeshore Drive. The place functioned as a center for lumber operations and industrial activities that shaped the region during the 1900s.

James Pryor founded the settlement through his lumber business, which was purchased by the Hamar Quandt Company in 1925. This acquisition marked a turning point in the economic development of the place and its role in the regional industrial landscape.

The term 'location' in Michigan's Upper Peninsula meant small settlements where workers from mining and timber industries lived together. These places served as centers for the daily life and community of people employed in those trades.

The site is located at an easily accessible point along the Portage Lake Shipping Canal where several roads meet. Today the area is completely built over with modern structures, with a Super-8 Motel now occupying the former industrial land.

The settlement strategically used its position along the Portage Lake Shipping Canal to transport lumber and materials by boat. This waterway was an essential part of the trade system that powered the region's timber industry.
