Reformed Presbyterian Church of Vernon

The Reformed Presbyterian Church of Vernon is a house of worship featuring white clapboard walls and Greek Revival design elements that define its exterior. Its sanctuary displays classical proportions, simple pilasters, and regularly spaced windows typical of 19th-century country churches.

Scottish immigrants from New York established this Presbyterian congregation in 1848, with construction of the current building completed in 1853. The structure became their permanent center for religious gatherings in rural Wisconsin.

The congregation represents the Presbyterian traditions brought by Scotch-Irish settlers who sustained their faith practices and community life in Wisconsin. Their descendants maintained these customs for over a century within this rural setting.

The building stands along a rural road and is viewable from the outside, though interior access may be limited since regular worship services no longer take place. The adjoining cemetery is easily accessible and provides insight into the original congregation.

The cemetery beside the church holds graves of original congregation members, maintained to this day by their descendants. This ongoing care links the current community to the deep roots of this Scottish settlement.
