Boerner Botanical Gardens

Boerner Botanical Gardens is a botanical garden in Hales Corners with 100 acres divided into dedicated areas for perennials, roses, and woodland trails. The entire space is connected by paved pathways that guide visitors through each planted section.

Alfred L. Boerner founded this garden in the 1930s as part of the Milwaukee County Parks system. The site was created to build a comprehensive plant collection and make botanical diversity accessible to the public.

The education center offers year-round classes about plants and gardening techniques for students, families, and local people. These programs show how visitors engage with the gardens to learn about nature and develop practical skills.

The gardens are open from May through November, with summer hours running from 8 AM to 7 PM. The site features flat paved paths that are easy to walk, and the education center remains open year-round.

The Rock Garden integrates natural limestone formations with specialized alpine plants that have adapted to Wisconsin's seasonal temperature swings. This section demonstrates how plants can flourish in challenging conditions.
