Tuttle Creek Lake

Tuttle Creek Lake is a large reservoir in the Flint Hills region of Kansas that spans a substantial water surface with an extensive shoreline. The lake features multiple coves and open water areas that create different environments for recreation and exploration.

The lake was created by a dam built by the Army Corps of Engineers in the 1950s as part of federal flood control efforts. This project transformed the landscape and water management in the region.

The reservoir hosts eleven surrounding parks offering diverse outdoor activities, including an 18-hole disc golf course and specialized sports facilities.

The lake is surrounded by multiple parks and access points that serve different recreational activities and water uses. Conditions vary with the season, so plan your visit based on what you want to do and the weather at that time of year.

A major storm in the 1990s eroded the spillway area and revealed striking rock layers underneath, creating an unusual canyon-like formation. This natural cut shows different colored stone bands and attracts geology enthusiasts who find it easy to overlook on first visits.
