Rock City

Rock City is a tourist attraction on Lookout Mountain featuring marked trails that wind through natural rock formations, caves, and a 140-foot waterfall called High Falls. The grounds include various themed areas and viewing points designed for visitors to explore at their own pace.

Garnet and Frieda Carter opened this site in 1932 and launched a marketing campaign that involved painting advertisements on over 900 barn roofs across 19 states. This unconventional advertising method made the location famous across the nation.

The Fairyland Caverns and Mother Goose Village display scenes from classic fairy tales through detailed figurines and lighting effects throughout the grounds. Visitors walk through these areas and discover colorful scenes at various points along their journey.

The site operates daily and offers parking and dining at Big Rock Grill for visitors. Multiple color-marked trails guide guests through different sections of the grounds, making navigation straightforward.

From the Lover's Leap viewpoint on the grounds, visitors can see mountain peaks across seven different southeastern states. This far-reaching vista is one of the most memorable sights guests encounter while exploring.
