Roundtop Filling Station, Historic filling station in Sherwood, United States
Roundtop Filling Station is a historic gas station along U.S. Route 67 in Sherwood, Arkansas, distinguished by its mushroom-shaped roof and arched windows and doors. The structure reflects typical roadside fuel station design from the 1930s.
The station was established in 1936 by Pierce Oil Company and initially lacked electric fuel pumps. Modern pumps were not installed until 1941, after years of staff manually dispensing fuel into glass containers.
The station gained recognition when filmmakers chose it as a backdrop for scenes depicting a country musician's life in a 2010 production. The building's distinctive form made it a natural choice for representing mid-20th century roadside American culture.
The former gas station building now serves as a police substation and can be viewed from the exterior. Its location on U.S. Route 67 makes it easy to spot and accessible to visitors interested in roadside architecture.
A young manager named Wallace David Williford operated the station during his high school years as an unusual entrepreneurial venture. He paid his employees modest wages to run it while he attended school.
