Sergeant John F. Baker, Jr. Bridge

Sergeant John F. Baker, Jr. Bridge, Tied-arch bridge across Mississippi River between Davenport, United States.

The Sergeant John F. Baker Jr. Bridge is a tied-arch bridge crossing the Mississippi River between Rock Island, Illinois and Davenport, Iowa. Its distinctive curved arch supports the entire weight of the four-lane roadway above.

The bridge opened in 1973 as a new transportation link across the river. It was renamed in 2010 to honor a Medal of Honor recipient from the military.

The bridge represents engineering advancement in the Quad Cities region while connecting communities between Iowa and Illinois through Interstate 280.

Access to the bridge is via Interstate 280, which forms the primary route between the two states. The structure remains open year-round to regular traffic.

The original blue and yellow color scheme was completely changed to solid blue in 2007. This transformation significantly altered the bridge's appearance over time.
