Southwick's Zoo

Southwick's Zoo is a zoological park in Mendon covering 300 acres and home to over 850 animals representing 165 species. Walking paths connect multiple habitats and exhibit areas throughout the grounds.

The property began as a dairy farm founded in 1803 and later became home to exotic poultry collections under Justin F. Southwick. It transformed into a zoo in 1963.

The staff runs educational programs that help visitors understand how animals live and why their habitats matter. These activities shape how people think about wildlife and nature.

A rubber tire train travels through forested areas, allowing visitors to view wildlife from a comfortable vantage point. Food vendors and picnic spaces are spread across the grounds.

The zoo offers interactive animal encounters where visitors can touch and feed certain animals, creating memorable moments that stay with guests long after they leave. These hands-on experiences set this place apart from typical viewing-only facilities.
