St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lutheran church in Walker's Point, Milwaukee, United States.
St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church is a Renaissance Revival church with two distinctive square towers located in Walker's Point, Milwaukee. The taller tower reaches 165 feet (50 meters) while its companion stands at 100 feet (30 meters), and the structure is built from red brick with detailed stonework.
The church was founded in 1860 by 34 German immigrants who first worshiped in a wooden building before the brick structure was completed in 1866. The complex expanded in the following decades with an 1873 parsonage and an 1879 school building to serve the growing congregation.
The congregation preserves its German roots while holding services in English and Spanish to welcome Milwaukee's diverse population. The space itself serves as a gathering place where different communities connect with both the building's heritage and each other.
The church complex spans several buildings including the main sanctuary, an 1873 parsonage now used for offices, and an 1879 school building across the street. Visitors should plan to see all three structures to understand the full scope of this historic site.
Inside, an elevated goblet-shaped pulpit and a U-shaped balcony surrounding the nave stand out, along with an antique white wood reredos behind the altar. These distinctive interior features create an uncommon arrangement rarely seen in other churches.
