Steinman Hardware Store

Steinman Hardware Store is a three-story brick and cast iron building located in downtown Lancaster. The structure displays decorative stone railings at its roofline and features original stained glass in its storefront window.

The business was founded in 1793 and completely rebuilt in 1886. The building gained recognition as a historic landmark in 1979.

The Queen Anne style architecture of the building represents the commercial development of Lancaster during the late nineteenth century industrial period.

The building sits on West King Street in Lancaster's central business area and is easy to reach on foot. Its location on an active downtown street makes it straightforward to view the exterior and examine the facade details.

Portions of the stone facade and metal fixtures come from an older building that stood on the site dating back to 1744. These older elements were preserved during the rebuilding and create a bridge between two different periods of construction.
