Tastee Diner, Classic diner in Bethesda, Maryland, United States
Tastee Diner is a classic stainless steel diner on Woodmont Avenue in Bethesda, Maryland, with a long counter, leather booths, and chrome trim throughout. The room follows a narrow rectangular layout, with counter seating along one side and booth seating along the other.
The diner opened in 1935 on Wisconsin Avenue and moved to its current location on Woodmont Avenue in 1958. It has stayed on that same block ever since, serving the Bethesda area for nearly 90 years.
The Tastee Diner is one of the few places in Bethesda that stays open through the night, giving it a particular role in the neighborhood's after-hours life. Late-night workers, students, and regulars all share the same counter stools and booths regardless of the hour.
The diner is open 24 hours a day, so you can walk in at any time without planning ahead. It tends to be quieter in the middle of the night and busier during morning and lunch hours.
A fire in 2002 destroyed much of the building, but the diner reopened only two months later. The original stainless steel panels were salvaged and reused during the rebuild, so the structure still carries pieces of the pre-fire diner.
