Taltree Arboretum and Gardens

Taltree Arboretum and Gardens is a botanical garden and tree collection spanning over 360 acres in Valparaiso, Indiana. The grounds are divided into distinct sections featuring gardens, woodlands, wetlands, and grasslands that showcase numerous native and introduced plant species.

The property opened in 1998 as a dedicated space for botanical education and environmental conservation in Porter County. Since then, it has grown into an important resource for sharing knowledge about plants and ecological systems with the public.

The gardens function as a learning hub where visitors discover regional plant species, how ecosystems work, and sustainable growing methods. It demonstrates how people connect with their environment and use plants for different purposes.

The grounds feature an extensive miniature garden railway system with approximately 900 meters of track across eight separate lines and a full-size working depot. This railway is a popular highlight for visitors of all ages and offers an entertaining break during your visit.
