The Warehouse, Art gallery in Downtown Syracuse, United States
The Warehouse is a multi-floor art and education center in downtown Syracuse, housing galleries, artist studios, and learning spaces. Different floors are dedicated to specific programs, including areas for communications design and fashion design.
The building was put up in the 1920s as a storage facility for the Dunk and Bright Furniture Company. A major renovation carried out in 2005 and 2006 turned it into the art and education center it is today.
The ground floor gallery shows contemporary work by artists from the local area, across the country, and abroad, with exhibitions that rotate throughout the year. Each visit offers a different set of works, reflecting a wide range of styles and approaches.
The building is organized into clear sections for different programs, making it easy to find your way around. It is worth allowing extra time to explore several floors, as the galleries and studios are spread throughout the whole structure.
The building was renamed in 2013 after the chancellor who first pushed for its transformation from a furniture warehouse into an education center. Her name now sits on a building that once held sofas and wardrobes rather than canvases and design studios.
