Turtle Back Zoo, Wildlife park in West Orange, New Jersey
The Essex County Turtle Back Zoo spans multiple acres with dedicated spaces for North American wildlife, Australian animals, and African species across varied habitats.
The Turtle Back Zoo opened its gates to visitors in 1963 as part of Essex County's initiative to create educational recreational spaces for local communities.
The zoo provides educational programs about wildlife conservation and environmental protection through interactive exhibits and professional presentations throughout the year.
Visitors can access the zoo daily from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with extended hours until 7:00 PM on Wednesdays and Thursdays during July and August.
The Sea Turtle Recovery center within the zoo provides medical care and rehabilitation services for injured sea turtles before returning them to their ocean habitat.
