In 1975, residents transformed an abandoned lot filled with stripped cars into a garden, which gained permanent status through Community Board 7 in 1985.
The garden hosts Shakespeare performances, musical concerts, and art fairs throughout the year, creating opportunities for neighborhood connections.
Members maintain 87 individual vegetable beds, a berry patch, rose garden, and community compost bins that accept weekly food scrap deposits.
The tiered floral amphitheater contains designated flower plots where members plant tulips that bloom during the annual spring festival.
