Weequahic Park, Urban park in Newark, United States
The 311-acre expanse includes an 80-acre lake, sports fields, tennis courts, basketball courts, and multiple recreational facilities across its landscaped grounds.
The Essex County Park Commission established this land in 1896, gradually expanding it to 265 acres by 1899 under the name Weequahic Reservation.
The name originates from the Lenni-Lenape Native American term meaning 'head of the cove', marking the boundary between Raritan and Hackensack tribes.
Located at Elizabeth Avenue and Meeker Avenue intersection, the park features a 2.2-mile rubberized loop trail surrounding Weequahic Lake for walking and running.
The park contains Divident Hill, where Newark and Elizabeth founders met in 1668 to establish municipal boundaries between their respective settlements.
