Womble Trail, Weg in den Vereinigten Staaten
Womble Trail is a 37-mile path in Ouachita National Forest, Arkansas, stretching from North Fork Lake to the Ouachita National Recreation Trail. It features rocky terrain with steep climbs, ridge sections, creek crossings, and narrow passages that wind through dense forest.
Parts of the trail were built on old railroad beds that were converted into pathways, with origins tied to the town of Womble that once stood south of the current route. Over decades, the route has been maintained and shaped by the US Forest Service and local groups into the challenging path it is today.
The Womble Trail holds a special place among outdoor enthusiasts and is part of the annual Ouachita Challenge mountain bike race. The route draws visitors from across the region who appreciate the blend of technical riding and natural forest exploration.
The trail is accessible at five marked trailheads including parking areas on AR-88 and Forest Road D75A, with free access to all visitors. Water sources along the route are not safe for drinking, so bring your own supplies and plan for a full day of activity.
The route is known for abundant spider webs and ticks, especially after trail maintenance, so wearing long clothing is advised. Visitors also report occasional wildlife encounters including bears, which serve as reminders that you are moving through their natural habitat.
