Woonsocket Rubber Company Mill, Industrial mill complex in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, United States
The Woonsocket Rubber Company Mill is a factory complex along Main Street in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, made up of multiple brick buildings that rise three to four stories high. The structures form a compact industrial district typical of early manufacturing centers in the region.
Edward Harris founded this facility in 1857 as an early rubber manufacturing plant in Rhode Island. The operation shifted its focus over the decades until Falls Yarn Company took over in 1910 and transformed it into a wool yarn producer.
The mill stands as a reminder of New England's industrial past, when such facilities shaped city life and drew workers from many regions. The brick buildings show how central factories were to the community and its survival during that era.
The site sits near Main Street in downtown Woonsocket and is easy to reach on foot from nearby areas. It is protected as a historic property, so visitors should check in advance about access since tours or interior visits may not always be available.
The site is part of the Island Place Historic District and shares history with the Alice Mill, a sister facility named after the owner's mother. That companion mill was destroyed by fire in 2011, making the Rubber Company Mill one of the few remaining examples from this industrial era.
