Cronin Peak

Cronin Peak is a mountain summit in the Sawatch Range with an elevation of about 13,877 feet in the southern Rocky Mountains. The terrain is marked by steep slopes and exposed ridges that create a challenging climbing environment.

The U.S. Geological Survey renamed the peak from North Carbonate Peak to Cronin Peak in 2005. This change honored mountaineering achievements in the region.

Mary Cronin achieved a major milestone in mountaineering history in 1934 by summiting all 53 peaks above 14,000 feet in Colorado. Her accomplishment linked her name to this region and reminds visitors of a significant achievement from that era.

The summit is accessible via Baldwin Gulch Road, though high-clearance vehicles are needed to reach the trailhead at about 12,700 feet. Visitors should prepare for alpine conditions and challenging terrain.

The summit sits about 2.4 miles from the nearest neighboring peak and rises distinctly from surrounding terrain. This relative isolation makes it visually prominent and gives it its own character in the mountain landscape.
