Hindu Temple of Delaware

The Hindu Temple of Delaware is a place of worship featuring intricate stone carvings and decorative patterns throughout its interior and exterior spaces. The building is designed with dedicated areas for different religious practices and ceremonies.

Construction started in 1996 when the Hindu community in Hockessin acquired land to serve the growing population of Indian descent. The project fulfilled a need for a dedicated space where this community could practice their faith.

The temple serves as a gathering place where the community celebrates religious festivals and passes down traditional knowledge to younger members. Visitors can observe people praying, studying sacred texts, and sharing cultural practices that connect them to their heritage.

The temple sits on its own grounds with parking space and is easily accessible from the road. Plan time to explore both the indoor spaces and the outdoor areas, especially when events are being held on the property.

A colossal statue of a Hindu deity stands at the entrance, reaching over 80 feet (24 meters) in height and catching the eye from the road. This representation is among the tallest of its kind on the continent and often becomes visitors' first impression.
