Museum of Ceramics

The Museum of Ceramics showcases pottery made in this town, including fine china, yellowware, and Rockingham pieces from regional factories. The collection features about 200 examples of Lotus Ware that Knowles, Taylor, and Knowles produced in the 1890s.

This town became a major center for ceramic manufacturing in late 19th and early 20th century America. At its peak, the local factories here produced more than half of all ceramic goods made in the United States.

The museum preserves one of only six remaining Great Wheels, a 170-year-old potter's wheel that shows how ceramic production worked long ago. This rare machine offers a tangible look at the tools that skilled potters once used daily.
